MrClutch's Top Ten Fuel Saving Tips
01/04/2009

Helping to reduce the cost of motoring!!

Everyonebut the oil suppliers would agree that putting fuel in our cars has nowbecome ridiculously expensive. We all hate those petrol pump visits.Watching that ticker is like watching our wages flying away, whichnobody wants to see in the current financial climate.  So here is our top ten fuel saving tips, to make that ever expensive fuel last that little bit longer.

1)     Prepareyour car for an effective journey. Always ensure tyres are inflatedcorrectly. Under inflated tyres can cause drag and waste fuel butbecautious, over inflated tyres can provide less control when driving,so always follow guidelines in your manufacturers handbook. If you don’thave one, just ask MrClutch and we can tell you.

2)     Alsoremove any unnecessary weight from the vehicle. There is no need to becarrying half the contents of your house around in your boot, itjustwastes fuel.

3)     Leavethe pole positions starts to the racing drivers on the track. Overrevving your engine will waste fuel and wear on your engine.

4)     Ensureyou are always driving at appropriate speeds. Driving over the speedlimit is not only illegal but will consume fuel much faster.

5)     Don’tlabour your engine in a low gear; make sure you are driving in theappropriate gear at all times. For diesels try changing up at 2000rpmand for petrol engines try changing up at 2500rpm.

6)     Makesure you read the road ahead. Anticipate traffic flow and use yourbrake and accelerator more gently. Sudden Stop-Start movements willconsume fuel a lot quicker.

7)     Don’t use your brakes unnecessarily, as braking excessively will waste fuel.

8)     If you find yourself idling and stationary for more than a few minutes, turn your engine off, you’re just burning your money.

9)     We all like staying cool but unnecessary use of Air-Conditioning systems will consume fuel quicker.

10)  Almostall petrol suppliers now provide the option of advanced, higher octanefuels. The cost of these may be a few pence more but they can last thatlittle bit longer.
