The Benefits of Pass Plus
Can you remember the moment you passed your driving test? The day that you finally had the keys to a car and were able to drive, alone, will no doubt be in your memory forever, and never fail to make you smile. The only other thing you may well remember is the extortionate expense that comes with your first vehicle. Sky high insurance premiums and juggling petrol, tax and maintenance can be very difficult for young drivers. Pass Plus has been developed by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) to lower costs for new drivers, as well as developing their road skills, making journeys safer all round!
In the first two years of driving, new drivers, particularly those under the age of 25, are more likely to have an accident than any other driver on the road. As a result, insurance premiums are particularly high for new drivers with recent studies suggesting young males are paying over £2,000 for insurance on their first vehicle. The Pass Plus system aims to build on your understanding of the roads and driving ability, in circumstances that aren’t experienced in normal driving lessons. By teaching you how to plan ahead, deal with various hazards and be more confident with situations you may face on the roads, Pass Plus will teach you invaluable, life-long driving skills.
Pass Plus will take inexperienced drivers through various modules to ensure that they are able to drive in different circumstances, whether that be weather conditions, motorway driving or on rural roads. The experienced gained by completing the Pass Plus course, which takes roughly six hours to complete, can save around 30% on a first time insurance policy.
After the first year, you do not have to declare your Pass Plus certificate and may find that even if you do, you do not benefit financially. The Pass Plus course can be taken by any driver but with more experienced drivers it may be used purely to feel more comfortable on the road.
For more details on Pass Plus courses in your area, simply speak to your driving instructor or a local driving school.
